CAC Mango Tree: A Taste of the Tropics in Your Backyard
Welcome the CAC Mango Tree, a tropical wonder that’s often underestimated due to its unassuming name. Yet, those who dare to explore this variety are rewarded with an explosion of flavor that’s nothing short of extraordinary.
Growth and Size: The CAC Mango Tree is a robust specimen, falling into the medium to large size category. It exhibits a lively and expansive growth pattern, forming a broad and open canopy. With regular pruning, this tree can be conveniently maintained at a height of 15-20 feet. However, due to its naturally open and sprawling growth habit, it’s not suitable for long-term container growth.
Fruit Production: The CAC Mango Tree is a consistent performer, offering a good to heavy yield of fruit. The mangoes are medium-sized, typically weighing between 1 – 1.5 lbs. While the tree isn’t particularly precocious, it makes up for it with its steady fruit production.
Taste: The CAC Mango is a flavor powerhouse. It falls into the Indochinese flavor category, offering a complex and delightful taste profile. The fruit’s skin is unusually smooth for a mango, akin to a nectarine, and emits a captivating mango aroma with hints of citrus and papaya when perfectly ripe. The flesh is a vibrant yellowish-orange, fiberless, and has an incredibly smooth and creamy texture. The flavor is rich and floral, with a well-balanced level of acidity that brings out notes of citrus, peach, and melon.
Disease Resistance and Season: The CAC Mango Tree shows high resistance to most mango diseases, including Bacterial Black Spot & Anthracnose. However, its flowers are known to be susceptible to Powdery Mildew. The CAC Mango is a mid-season mango, primarily ripening from June to July.
History: The CAC Mango Tree was introduced from Vietnam to Florida at the turn of the 21st century. In Vietnam, this cultivar is also known as “Xoi Cát Chu.” The term “cát” translates to “sand” in Vietnamese, referring to the black lenticels that commonly develop on the fruit, resembling specks of sand.
In conclusion, the CAC Mango Tree is a fantastic addition to any garden. Its vigorous growth, delicious fruit, and unique characteristics make it a must-have for any tropical fruit enthusiast. Experience the joy of growing your own mangos with the CAC Mango Tree!
