Introducing the Nijisseiki Nashi, also known as the 20th Century Asian Pear. This unique variety is a delight to the senses and a must-have for any fruit connoisseur.
The Nijisseiki Nashi is a small, heavy-bearing tree that is easy to grow and starts producing fruit at a young age. It’s a hardy plant, suitable for USDA Zones 5-10, and requires only 300-400 chilling hours, making it a versatile choice for various climates.
The fruit itself is a true delight. Round in shape, it boasts a distinctive yellow-green skin, setting it apart from the more common golden-skinned varieties. The flesh is white, offering a crisp texture reminiscent of an apple. But it’s the flavor that truly sets the Nijisseiki Nashi apart. It’s juicy, sweet, and mild, combining the best of pears and apples in one delightful package.
The Nijisseiki Nashi matures from August 8 to August 23, with a harvest period in late August. It’s self-fruitful but can also be pollinated by Shinseiki, Bartlett, or other varieties for a more abundant harvest.
One of the more premium fruits on the market, the 20th Century Asian Pear is often found enveloped in a protective white film, signifying its high value. Despite its luxurious status, this pear is not just for the elite. It’s a fruit for everyone to enjoy, bringing a touch of sophistication to any garden.
Add the Nijisseiki Nashi to your collection today and experience the joy of growing and tasting this remarkable fruit. It’s not just a tree, it’s an experience.
