Growth and Size

The Cotton Candy Mango Tree is known for its vigorous and upright growth habit, making it a striking addition to any landscape. With proper annual pruning, this tree can be maintained at a manageable height of 10 to 20 feet, allowing for easy harvesting and care. Its open canopy and lanky branches create an elegant silhouette, adding visual interest to your garden.

Fruit Characteristics

  • Size: The Cotton Candy Mango produces small to medium-sized fruits, typically weighing between 0.75 to 1.5 pounds.
  • Taste: Renowned for its intense sweetness, the Cotton Candy Mango offers a classic mango flavor with a hint of coconut-like undertones. The flesh is completely fiberless and boasts a vibrant orangish-yellow color.
  • Aroma: The fruit exudes a complex aroma reminiscent of its parent, the Gary Mango, with an added citrus scent that enhances its appeal.

Harvesting and Season

  • Season: This late-season mango variety ripens from July to August, providing a delightful treat during the summer months.
  • Harvesting Tips: To ensure the best quality fruit, pick Cotton Candy Mangos when they are mature and beginning to ripen on the tree. Look for signs of yellow color break and increased prominence of lenticels. Avoid letting the fruit ripen fully on the tree to prevent uneven ripening and jelly seed.

Disease Resistance and Planting

  • Disease Resistance: While the Cotton Candy Mango is somewhat susceptible to Bacterial Black Spot, it thrives in areas with a sea breeze or drier regions. It is best to avoid planting in very humid areas without a proper disease treatment program.
  • Planting Recommendations: Ideal for coastal gardens or drier climates, this mango tree will flourish in well-drained soil and full sun exposure.
  • History: Propagated by Gary Zill in Boynton Beach, Florida, and released to the public in 2016, the Cotton Candy Mango is a seedling of the Keitt Mango, with Gary Mango as its pollinating parent. It shares its lineage with other popular varieties like Coconut Cream, Pina Colada, M-4, Honey Kiss, and Pineapple Pleasure.

Add the Cotton Candy Mango Tree to your garden and enjoy the unparalleled sweetness and unique flavor that this exceptional variety has to offer. Perfect for those who appreciate the finer things in life, this mango tree is sure to become a cherished part of your tropical fruit collection.
