The Dorsett Golden apple is a unique cultivar that brings a touch of the tropics to your orchard. Descended from the popular Golden Delicious variety, this early-season apple is known for its ability to thrive in warmer climates, requiring 100 hours of cold weather to bloom which is suitable for USDA Zones 5-10.
Its golden-yellow skin, often kissed with a pinkish or light red blush, is reminiscent of a tropical sunset, adding a splash of color to your garden. The blush can cover 10 to 40% of the apple and becomes more intense with cooler nights during the last month before harvest.
But the Dorsett Golden is not just about looks. It’s one of the sweetest apples grown in the United States. Each bite into its firm yet creamy flesh reveals a juicy sweetness and a refreshing crunch. Whether enjoyed fresh off the tree or used in your favorite apple recipes, the Dorsett Golden delivers a delectable, fruity flavor that’s sure to delight.
This apple variety is also a fantastic pollinator for similar apple varieties like Anna, making it a valuable addition to any orchard. So, if you’re looking for an apple tree that can handle the heat, the Dorsett Golden is a golden opportunity. Welcome this tropical gem to your garden and enjoy the sweet rewards it brings! ????
