Introducing the Fairchild Mango Tree, a compact and manageable fruit tree that’s perfect for those with limited space. This tree, named after the renowned plant explorer Dr. David Fairchild, is a small-sized mango tree that can be easily maintained between 8-10 feet tall with annual pruning.

The Fairchild Mango Tree is known for its attractive deep-green foliage and somewhat open canopy, making it an excellent choice for those seeking a smaller ‘ornamental fruit tree.’ Despite its size, this tree is a reliable producer, offering average to good fruit production from a young age.

The fruits of the Fairchild Mango Tree are small, typically weighing between 0.3-0.7 lbs, and have a strong, classic mango flavor with a hint of complexity. When ripe, the fruit’s skin transitions to a lemon yellow color, and the flesh reveals a juicy, fiberless, and somewhat firm texture. The flavor profile is intense and sweet, reminiscent of a classic mango but with subtle notes of tangerine-like citrus and resinous flavors.

The Fairchild Mango Tree is also incredibly disease resistant, making it an excellent addition to yards with less than ideal conditions, such as higher humidity levels and low winds. It’s particularly resistant to Anthracnose, a common disease in mango trees.

This tree has a rich history, having been discovered near the Panama Canal in the early 1900s and introduced to the US via Hawaii in the 1920s. It’s speculated to be an Indian/Indochinese hybrid, contributing to its unique flavor profile.

The Fairchild Mango Tree is an early-to-mid season mango, typically ripening from June to July. It’s well-suited for marginal interior/humid areas of Florida and is an excellent choice for backyard growers seeking a smallish tree with excellent disease resistance qualities.

Add the Fairchild Mango Tree to your garden today and enjoy its unique flavor, manageable size, and ornamental beauty. This tree is not just a plant, but a piece of history that you can grow in your own backyard. Enjoy the journey of growing your own Fairchild Mango Tree!
