The Kent mango, a variety that hails from the sunny groves of Coconut Grove, Florida, is a true gem among mangoes. Its journey began in 1945 and it has since become a beloved choice for mango enthusiasts. The flesh of the Kent mango is a vibrant deep yellow, offering a sweet and aromatic flavor that is second to none. It’s a taste experience that is truly top-notch, making it a standout in the flavor department.
The Kent mango is not just about taste, it’s also about abundance. One of its most rewarding attributes is its generous late-season crop. The fruit ripens from July to August, providing a bountiful harvest that is excellent in terms of production. This makes the Kent mango a reliable and fruitful addition to any garden or orchard.
However, the Kent mango is not a small, easily manageable tree. It is a large and vigorous grower, capable of reaching heights of fifty to sixty feet if left unmanaged. Despite its imposing size, it’s still a good choice for those who don’t mind a bit of a challenge in their gardening adventures. Its size is considerable, but not insurmountable.
In terms of disease resistance, the Kent mango is fairly robust. It can be grown with minimal fungicide application, making it a feasible choice for those who prefer a more natural approach to their gardening. Lastly, when it comes to color, the Kent mango is quite appealing. The fruit may have some minor imperfections, but this does not detract from its overall attractiveness or its delicious taste. All in all, the Kent mango is a variety that offers a wonderful blend of flavor, productivity, and beauty. It’s a choice that any discerning mango lover would be proud to have in their collection.
