Introducing the Koroneiki I-38, a distinguished olive tree cultivar hailing from the sun-kissed landscapes of Greece. This unique variety is celebrated for its vibrant, peppery flavor profile, making it a popular choice for blending in the world of olive oil production.
The Koroneiki I-38 is a hardy plant, flourishing in USDA zones 8 to 11, and is known for its resilience in well-drained and even nutritionally deficient soils. Despite its frost sensitivity, it thrives in milder climates, making it a versatile addition to any garden or orchard.
One of the standout features of the Koroneiki I-38 is its early and abundant productivity. From the tender age of just three years, this cultivar begins to bear its small, yet plentiful fruits. This early onset of fruiting, coupled with its robust vigor, sets it apart from its parent variety, the ‘Koroneiki Standard’.
The oil produced from the Koroneiki I-38 is a feast for the senses. Its rich, green hue is a visual treat, while its fruity, herbal notes tantalize the palate. The medium bitterness and pungency add a delightful complexity to its flavor profile. Moreover, the oil boasts an impressive shelf life of over two years, ensuring you can savor its exquisite taste for longer.
The Koroneiki I-38 is not just a prolific bearer but also a team player. While it is self-fruitful, it generously boosts the yield of other varieties like Arbequina and Arbosana when planted alongside them.
With its open canopy and medium vigor, the Koroneiki I-38 is an ideal candidate for high-density planting. Its suitability for mechanical harvesting makes it a practical choice for commercial growers. Yet, its compact size, reaching up to 25 feet in height and width, also makes it a charming addition to home gardens.
In summary, the Koroneiki I-38 is more than just an olive tree. It’s a testament to the rich heritage of Greek olive cultivation, a versatile player in the field of olive oil production, and a resilient and rewarding choice for growers. Experience the joy of growing the Koroneiki I-38, and savor the rich, peppery notes of Greece in every drop of oil it produces.
