The Nam Doc Mai Mango, a top-tier cultivar, first made its appearance in Florida in 1973, having been brought over from Thailand. This Asian mango variety has since become a favorite among mango enthusiasts, and it’s easy to see why.

The fruit itself boasts a firm texture, a sweet taste, and a delightful aroma, all without a hint of fiber. This makes for an excellent eating experience, as the flavor is truly second to none. The fruit ripens in the summer months, specifically from June to July, offering a seasonal treat that many look forward to.

In terms of production, the Nam Doc Mai is a prolific bearer, setting a large number of fruits each season. This makes it an ideal choice not only for commercial growers but also for home gardeners who want to enjoy their own fresh mangoes. The tree itself is of a manageable size, making it suitable even for smaller backyards.

While the color of the fruit may not be as visually appealing as some other varieties, with potential for surface blemishes, this does not impact the quality of the fruit inside. The tree also shows a good level of disease resistance, making it a feasible option for those who prefer to limit their use of fungicides.

The Nam Doc Mai mango offers a combination of excellent flavor, high production, manageable tree size, and good disease resistance, making it a highly desirable variety for both commercial and home growers. While the color may not be its strongest point, the taste more than makes up for it. This mango variety is truly a gem among fruits.
