Ponkan Tangerine – Big, Bold, and Candy-Sweet Citrus Delight

The Ponkan Tangerine is a longtime favorite among citrus lovers — and for good reason. With its extra-large, deep orange fruit, easy-peeling skin, and incredibly sweet, rich flavor, it’s often described as the “candy of citrus.” Few seeds, juicy flesh, and a melt-in-your-mouth sweetness make this variety a must-have for fresh eating.

Why Grow Ponkan?

  • Flavor: Intensely sweet and smooth — like citrus candy

  • Fruit: Larger than typical tangerines with vibrant color and minimal seeds

  • Peelability: Thin, loose skin makes it a breeze to peel by hand

  • Tree Size: Grows 10–15 ft, but easily maintained at 6–8 ft for containers

  • Pollination: Self-fertile, but cross-pollination can boost yields

  • Hardiness: Adapts well to various conditions and shows moderate disease resistance

  • Zones: Thrives in USDA zones 8–11

Whether you’re building a backyard grove or growing in a pot on the patio, the Ponkan Tangerine delivers big citrus flavor in a tidy, rewarding package. It’s a classic for a reason — grow it once, and you’ll be hooked for life.

Carriers and Services

Winter Shipping Advisory
Cold Weather Alert: Tropical trees are highly sensitive to cold temperatures. During colder months, our greenhouses maintain warm, optimal conditions for growth, which makes plants more vulnerable to cold damage during shipping.
Recommendations: If temperatures along the shipping route are below 40°F, we recommend holding your order until it’s safe to ship. We will notify you if a delay is necessary.
No Freeze Warranty: We do not guarantee plants shipped during freezing conditions. Shipping in cold weather is at the buyer’s discretion and risk.
Shipping Schedule
Local (In-State) Shipments: Orders ship Monday through Wednesday to ensure delivery before the weekend. Most locations within the state receive deliveries in 1 to 2 days.
Out-of-State Shipments: Orders ship primarily on Monday and Tuesday to avoid weekend delays.
