The Valencia Pride mango, a seedling of the Haden variety, was first identified in Florida in 1941. This variety is known for its sweet, aromatic, and virtually fibreless flesh, which offers an exceptional flavor that stands out among late-season varieties. The taste is so delightful that it never fails to impress, earning it an excellent rating in the flavor category.
The tree itself is a robust grower, eventually becoming a large shade tree. Despite its size, which might be imposing for some, it’s worth noting that its size contributes to its charm and utility. However, it’s worth noting that its size might not be ideal for all growers, especially those with limited space.
In terms of production, the Valencia Pride mango is a reliable producer, although it may not set as many fruits as some other varieties. It’s still a good choice for home growers or those looking for an exclusive variety. The fruit ripens from July to August, providing a late-season harvest.
One of the most striking features of the Valencia Pride mango is its exceptionally attractive fruit. The color of the fruit is vibrant and appealing, making it a top choice for commercial sale or presentation. Furthermore, this variety shows excellent disease resistance, making it a feasible choice for growers who prefer to use minimal fungicide applications.
The Valencia Pride mango is a remarkable variety that offers excellent flavor, attractive fruit, and good disease resistance. While its size and production may not suit all growers, its unique qualities make it a worthwhile addition to any nursery.
