Honey Gold Jackfruit – Sweet and Dense with Compact Growth

The Honey Gold Jackfruit is a dwarf variety native to Australia, known for its manageable size and suitability for home gardens or container growing. This slow-growing tree is perfect for those seeking to add an exotic touch to their garden without taking up too much space.

Tree Characteristics:

  • Size & Growth: The tree grows to a height of 8-10 feet, with a sparse, spreading canopy that can be easily pruned and maintained. Its compact growth habit makes it ideal for container growing or small garden spaces.
  • Temperature Tolerance: Thrives in USDA Zones 9B-11, preferring warm tropical conditions. It can tolerate brief periods of cooler temperatures but needs protection from frost.
  • Production Capability: Honey Gold is a prolific variety, producing 100-200 fruits per year. Thinning out the fruits is recommended to optimize growth and fruit quality.
  • Growth Rate: The tree is a slow grower, making it easier to maintain its size and manage in smaller spaces.

Fruit Characteristics:

  • Fruit Size: The fruits are substantial, weighing around 10-12 pounds. They have a blocky appearance and tactile spikes that smooth out as they ripen.
  • Color & Texture: The golden-yellow flesh is sweet, aromatic, and moderately crispy. The flesh is firm with a smooth texture, offering a rich flavor that’s a delight to the senses.
  • Latex Type: Low latex, making it easier to clean and prepare.
  • Harvest Time: Ripens in mid-summer, typically between July and August. The fruits may grow to the size of a basketball, and can be found on many limbs of the tree.

Care Tips:

Honey Gold thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. Regular pruning helps maintain its compact size, and thinning out the fruits will ensure healthier growth. The tree benefits from consistent watering and protection from heavy rains near harvest time to prevent fruit splitting.
